Lovely 1928 photograph album featuring the Schliesien and Schleswig-Holstein battleships, the only two large gun ships allowed to be kept by the post WWI German Navy in the Versailles Peace Treaty, as they were seen as obsolete by this time. Ironically the Schleswig-Holstein would fire the opening shots of WWII, when it opened fire on the Westerplatte, Danzig in 1939. This album is full of beautiful clear photos demonstrating life on board ship on a tour of Norway in 1928. The album features several photos of Reichspresident Paul Von Hindenburg on a visit to inspect the German ship. Also featured in the album is a photograph of the later infamous SS General Reinhard Heydrich. As a young naval lieutenant. He served with the Reichsmarine until he was dismissed from the navy in 1928 for behaviour unbecoming that of a German officer. The story is he offered his hand in marriage to someone, but then fell in love with and offered his hand to another woman who became the love of his life, Lena. This is the only known photograph in existence showing Heydrich physically onboard ship during his naval service and captures probably his last voyage before he was dismissed from the Reichsmarine.
